Lily Pond Leap: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Lily Pad Glow colour scheme by Clever Chameleon

What do Lily Pads and QUBEs have in common?

A recycled colour scheme from way back in June 2017.

Whaaaaat? LOL, no I’m not a “frog short of a lily pond”. It’ll all make sense in a moment, but it starts with this Lily Pad Glow colour board re-run. As we all know, life goes in circles and today’s little colour board has resurfaced for a red hot go at inspiring a quilt design. Even more shockingly….. a quilt that is actually being made.

This pretty pastel colour scheme was only the fourth colour scheme I ever placed on my blog (which was only about 6 weeks old at the time). How time flies! But while the colour board might be old in internet terms, I still love it, and this month it was the trigger that I needed for my newest design. Sometimes things just need a little time to ruminate and germinate!

This month, the Island Batik Ambassadors are tackling their Accuquilt challenge. Remember when I got all excited about receiving an Accuquilt 8″ QUBE? Well, buckle up for a creative ride, because April is the month you will see all the things the Ambassadors have imagined with it!

Green Hearts 4 Christchurch – Finished Flimsy

Green Hearts 4 Christchurch quilt. Green nine-patch quilt with pieced appliqué hearts at Clever Chameleon.

Green Hearts for the Healing Hearts for Christchurch Project

A quick post to mark a quick flimsy finish. My Green Hearts 4 Christchurch quilt top is finished. I like it – it was a great way to use up some fabric scraps. Admittedly it’s no show quilt – it was made in a mild hurry by two people of very different sewing styles on two very different machines. But it is filled with caring, and it is very calming in colour and form. It has already performed some significant soothing during its construction – hopefully it will continue to weave its magic as it is passed on to be quilted and bound and, finally, gifted.

If you’d like to make an appliqué heart project, for Christchurch victims/responders or any other special cause or person in your life, the heart template I drew and used is freely available for download in this post.

Green for Solidarity and Caring

Several days ago I found out about the Healing Hearts for Christchurch initiative. It is a drive to make and distribute quilts to the people most affected by the recent terror attack in Christchurch.

I decided that I would like to support this group of caring quilters on their quest to show love, respect, acceptance, and support to those affected within the Muslim community. They are also reaching out to the first responders, emergency services personal and ongoing support workers of Christchurch. So today, my friend Susan and I started turning our green fabric scraps into a quilt top to send to New Zealand via Healing Hearts. It is going to have improv pieced green appliqué hearts alternated with green nine-patches. The green is used at the request of the drive organisers. I’m hoping to get this project in the post by the end of the week.

Love with a Twist Graceful Glider Swan Balloon

Swan Balloon appliqué from the Love with a Twist series by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon

Autumn is here in Adelaide

The weather here has finally, finally turned. Autumn in Adelaide always gives us some of our very best, most beautiful and serene days, and it’s my favourite time of year weather-wise. It’s calm, gentle and soothing. The gliding swan of the weather world, perfect outdoors weather.

Of course, Autumn weather in Adelaide can hiss and spit too, like an enraged swan. Paul and I deliberately chose Autumn for our wedding many years ago, only to cop weather so bad it nearly cancelled our reception. In our wedding photos I am visibly white from cold. At the church, my bridesmaids hid in the bathroom to extract heat out of the hand drier….. But today we are thinking nice Autumn weather and happy swans. 🙂

And speaking of happy swans, the second option for Block 2 of the Love with a Twist quilt along is finally here. It’s my version of a really classic animal balloon shape. The balloon swan. Keep reading to collect your swan balloon pdf pattern and find out all the details for making the most of the next block of the Love with a Twist quilt along.

Vintage Cat: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Cats

I don’t think it’s any secret that I am a cat person. Perhaps not as passionate about them as when I was a child, but I still love having a friendly cat around the house to admire my quilting and to test my quilts.

This week though, cat art seemed to specifically catch my attention all over the place.

It started with a picture of a mummified cat I saw on Kathryn Kerr’s site for her 365 challenge sampler……
