Green Hearts 4 Christchurch – Finished Flimsy

Green Hearts for the Healing Hearts for Christchurch Project

A quick post to mark a quick flimsy finish. My Green Hearts 4 Christchurch quilt top is finished. I like it – it was a great way to use up some fabric scraps. Admittedly it’s no show quilt – it was made in a mild hurry by two people of very different sewing styles on two very different machines. But it is filled with caring, and it is very calming in colour and form. It has already performed some significant soothing during its construction – hopefully it will continue to weave its magic as it is passed on to be quilted and bound and, finally, gifted.

If you’d like to make an appliqué heart project, for Christchurch victims/responders or any other special cause or person in your life, the heart template I drew and used is freely available for download in this post.

Green Hearts: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Green patchwork colours at Clever Chameleon

Green for Solidarity and Caring

Several days ago I found out about the Healing Hearts for Christchurch initiative. It is a drive to make and distribute quilts to the people most affected by the recent terror attack in Christchurch.

I decided that I would like to support this group of caring quilters on their quest to show love, respect, acceptance, and support to those affected within the Muslim community. They are also reaching out to the first responders, emergency services personal and ongoing support workers of Christchurch. So today, my friend Susan and I started turning our green fabric scraps into a quilt top to send to New Zealand via Healing Hearts. It is going to have improv pieced green appliqué hearts alternated with green nine-patches. The green is used at the request of the drive organisers. I’m hoping to get this project in the post by the end of the week.

Cheerful Orange: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Linky Party

Cheerful Orange color scheme by Clever Chameleon

Welcome to the little Tuesday wedged in between my Sew Early 4 Christmas tutorial yesterday and our next Beary Colourful Bear pattern tomorrow!

Poor Tuesday! He had his big turn last week, with the Christmas in July blog hop…… but just because he is not the star of the Clever Chameleon blog this week doesn’t mean he can’t be inspiring.

He most certainly can!

Today’s blindingly bright colours are inspired by a little charity quilt that has just passed through my sewing room, cheering the place up as it went. I don’t know if I’d make myself a quilt in these colours, but it was nice to borrow them for a while. We all need a little cheering up occasionally. Let me brighten your day with this little orange quilt, another nice orange story from my week and a little look at the start I’ve made on my August Island Batik quilt.

Craft Room Destash Challenge – Project 70273

Project 70273 middling quilt

From the Sewing Room – Project 70273 and a Destash Challenge

Second month into 2108, and I’m still committed to destashing some of my fabrics. 🙂 It definitely helps to have a little motivation from Megan at C’mon Get Crafty and her Monthly Destash Challenge.  In fact, my destashing has become even more important, now that I have had a significant influx of fabrics from Island Batik. If you missed the opening of my first Ambassador box yesterday, you might want to take a squiz. I am over the moon with the collection of quilting supplies they sent me to play with!

Anyway, back to the destashing….. For last month’s challenge I used up most of my red fabric scraps making appliqué hearts. I also made a quilt top for these hearts to go onto, all out of stash. So I have actually used a measurable amount of stash so far. Great!

The hearts quilt project is on the backburner for now, but I must admit, I am very pleased with it. I expect I will progress it along again soon. However, for this month’s destash I am showing you something different. A much smaller project that is also part of a much bigger project – one that you might like to think about getting involved with too.
