Colour Inspiration Tuesday: Happy Galentine’s Day

Happy Galentine’s Day! Colour Inspiration Tuesday meets Island Batik Ambassador project theme… Crazy about My BFF!

island Batik logoAfter Local Quilt Shop Day, the next theme on the Island Batik calendar is 13th February – Galentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day?! Yes. GAL-antine’s Day, for celebrating Gal-friends, ie your best girl pals, BFFs.

To celebrate Galentine’s Day, the Island Batik Ambassadors are creating mug rugs or quilted postcards or similar in a Galentine’s theme. For reasons that will become clear in a moment, my Galentine is created with crayon not batiks. My Galentine is also a little tongue in cheek rather than sentimental, and I hope it will make you smile. As a bonus I have turned my Galentine into a virtual postcard that you can download for free and send to all your friends. If you’re game! But before we get to that……

Gettin’ in the mood!

Apparently, Galentine’s Day is  the unofficial holiday for chicks……

Awwwww. Sad.  🙁

……. and celebrate…….

I confess to being a little bit confused. I wasn’t aware we needed a special day to do that. If the boys can’t handle us spending regular alone time with our BFFS , those boys are on shaky ground! hahaha! But if having a special date to celebrate is what makes us actually connect in amongst our busy lives, I guess that is a good thing and I can get on board. 🙂

(If you are a boy, perhaps this post is not for you. Please do not take it personally, and come back next post.  We still love you. Hugs.)

OK. boy…. we see you!. You are still not a chick. Get outta here!!

Galentine’s Day Project, Inspired by Island Batik

The original idea behind today’s project was to make a mug rug or postcard with Island Batik fabrics to celebrate our fellow females who encourage and inspire us. But shipping delays have meant that I am still waiting for my first Island Batik package of awesomeness to arrive in the mail. So, without any Island Batik fabric to play with (and no local stockists…. booo……), what’s a gal to do? Break out her crayons of course! So, here is my Galentine’s Day project, with no batiks today, but courtesy of Island Batik anyway. 🙂

Happy Galentine’s Day Mug Rug

pink shoesAt first I wasn’t sure how to best embody Galentine’s Day into a mug rug that is true to my natural inclinations not to take this day (or the day after it) particularly seriously. I am not a girly girl. I don’t do pink or romantic easily. My dearest proposed on Valentine’s Day purely because we don’t celebrate this day and it was the only day he thought he could surprise me (true, and it worked!). Awwww…

But I do do Best Friends. Fiercely. Madly. 100% invested. So, I thought, perhaps I should do something that reflects BFFs as those we can be ourselves with, no matter how crazy other people think we are. Best Friends are our tribe, our pack, our girl gang. If someone messes with one of us, they mess with all of us!  So, I combined all these thoughts with what seem to be two international symbols for girls…. pink and shoes….. and voila!….. Boys Beware!

Crazy About My BFFs!

When I thought about our groups of BFFs as slightly crazy, super loyal girl posses, the first thing that came to mind was pirates and, by association, their Jolly Rogers. So I have invented a “Jolly Rogeena” mug rug!

Don’t you love her?…… Won’t the boys will be quaking in their boots when they see us unite under the Jolly Rogeena flag?! hahahaha

purple clever chameleon logoWhen my Island Batik fabrics come in I will have to try to find time to whip up a batik Jolly Rogeena. Just for fun. 🙂

Would you like to know more about using crayons on fabrics? I think another mini tutorial is due…..

I hope you find time to connect with a girlfriend or two today. Or tomorrow. Or the next day…… everyday is Galentine’s Day! Tell them a Pink Crazed Chameleon sent you….. of course. then you’ll have some fast explaining to do…..

Or just send the girls in your BFF tribe a virtual quilted postcard, compliments of the pinked-up Chameleon. Give them a laugh and spread the love.

  1. Good Morning!
Great description of Galentine’s Day! I hadn’t heard of it at all until I saw Vicki’s post . . . but it is certainly a good day to get behind and celebrate with all our BFFs. I hope your Island Batik box arrives soon! ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Wow, way to go for it! Don’t let a simple thing like no batiks stop you from celebrating your gal pals! Love this, it’s so you! Can’t wait to see your batik version. And all my Galentine’s love right back at you girlfriend! Thanks for linking up and making my special Valentine’s Wednesday Wait Loss all pink and girly!

  3. Hilarious photos and subtitles; I love your wicked sense of humour Dione. Like you I don’t feel the need to have a special day to celebrate my BFFs; only learned of this last year thanks to the IB gang. Your mug rug is so cute, and hmm, crayons on fabric…you may have given me an idea for March’s project.

  4. I loved your post – you are so funny! I don’t know whether that heart is more amusing or more frightening! LOL What a great idea.
