Happy New Years Eve 2019

Fireworks colour board at Clever Chameleon

A brief moment to wish you well. See you next year!

It is times like these that I am reminded why colours, creativity, quilting, blogging and connecting with people all over the world are activities so important to me. Australia is doing it tough this summer, with devastating fires having now hit every State; several more jaw-dropping tragedies unfolding today, even as I write. It is good to have something positive to be outward looking to, to balance the bad news and heartache a little.

So while I am not really in the mood to party tonight, I am still thankful at the turn of this year. Thankful for personal safety and two healthy kids who are fit to burst at the thought of staying up “all night”, the youngest for the first time (if he makes it through to midnight awake this time, poor kid! lol). Thankful for the magic of colour, and for the inspiration that people generously share on the internet, and for the cross-cultural language of creativity. And also thankful for all the bloggers who have become my internet friends and real life friends, thankful for all the readers who have shared a comment or made one of my quilt patterns, and thankful to Island Batik for helping me find my groove in the past two years.

I am also looking forward to new creativity, with relish, after this bit of forced break. I’m still packing and sorting our yesterdays like there is no tomorrow. All the while actually thinking about “tomorrow”…. and working around the Help, of course!

Mew and Thomas doll

Mr Mew made a serious tactical error there

A perfect fit, granted. But that box is going into storage, not to Arkaroola. Thomas the doll only comes out to play when my daughter spends time with a certain friend, so he is not required next year. Whoops, oh rats!

But speaking of rats….. Next year, from January 25, is the Year of the Rat. So…

A Chinese Zodiac Quilt

One of the new things I have decided to do in 2020 is finally finish my set of Chinese Zodiac appliqué animals. There are 12….. that sounds like a good number for a BOM……

Anyone interested? I have finished all the drawings, so I am hoping to get this off the ground as soon as we are settled in our new home. So think February. Then it will end in February 2021, with the Year of the Ox. Good thinking!

There’s probably another BOM in the works too, as I wanted to do more piecing this year…. but we’ll see when I can get that started.

Rounding out the Year 2019….. Chameleon and Friends style

The Chameleon and Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts hope you had a fantastic Christmas!

The Chameleon and Vasudha of Storied Quilts also hope you have a solid foundation ready for 2020……

So you can look back with pleasure, like Susan of Quilt Fabrication…..

And keep growing and getting up to mischief like Donnaleeq and family!

The Chameleon and I also wish you every success in the New Year: that you will reach all of your goals like Quilting Gail….

And feel all puffed up with accomplishment like Kathleen’s Puffer Fish at Kathleen McMusing!

We hope that 2020 is a wonderful year of colour and creativity for you! And that you will continue to share the journey with us.

Keep the Inspiration and Colour coming!

The Chameleon won’t have much time for sewing this coming month, and blog posts may be a bit thin on the ground too. So I’d appreciate seeing what you’re up to. Got to keep the creativity flowing! Link up something recent, or a favourite or two from 2019, the Chameleon would love to look back at the year that was, in quilts and sewing!

  1. I am having some trouble leaving a comment on some blogs, since getting the MacBook, probably in my settings or logins, so hope this reaches you. The fires, and still the Sydney fireworks is going ahead tonight at an astronomical cost!!! Just as well I am not the P A to anyone there. Hope your packing is going well amid all else happening, and a very Happy New Year to you all . I will be in for another challenge next year, my last sewing, a bag to go to a friend’s daughter who has just turned 14, I used most of those lovely batiks you sent me some time ago. Will take a photo before it goes away. Best wishes for all you hope for in 2020.Fondest greetings, Jean.

  2. Happy New Year to you Dione and to your family. Mr Mew would not be happy stuffed into storage so it is good that you showed him a different path! Such fun!

  3. Happy New Year to your and your family, Dione! And, Mr. Mew!! He would really miss your quilts if you stored him!! LOL Thanks for sharing your year with us. I’m looking forward to seeing you in 2020, with more quiltyspiration!! (I think I just made up a new word! LOL)

  4. Thanks for the highlight, Dione! I’ve been thinking of you as I hear about the fires there. Glad you are safe, but so sad about the loss of lives and homes, etc. I’m excited for your change of scenery – I hope the packing goes well. Mr. Mim needs to pick a better box – haha! Happy New Year to you!

  5. Happy New Year Dione! We just watched the Sydney fireworks, beautiful as usual. But can’t help but think of all the people affected by the terrible fires, and all the fire fighters that put their lives on the line. Your weather is not being helpful in the least.
Looking forward to spending time with you in 2020, and your Chinese Zodiac quilts are some of my favourites – I fell in love with the dog, as I was born in a year of the Dog. Ooh, so exciting!
Hope the move goes well, safe travels, and take care – all of you (including Mr. Mew).

  6. May 2020 be an inspired and quilt filled year for you and your family in you coming adventure. My husband and I are currently on a “news fast”. It seems that the news is such a downer of late. If there is something really tragic that happens, we will still hear of it. Blessings, M

  7. Happiest of New Years. I know it will be full of adventure and fun where you are moving. Cant wait to see what you and Chameleon find this coming year. I so loved this last year. Thank you so much for everything. You have inspired and encouraged me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was stuck on trying applique, I think I was a wee bit imtimidated. And you have helped. I am taking things slow and if they dont look perfect, well, that is ok. It looks more fun this way. Quilty Hugs and prayers for safe travels. PS So glad you caught Mr Mew. LOL Dec. 4th our 13 yr. old cat had to be put to sleep. sob. Dec. 14th we adopted two kittens. One is 6 months the other is 8 months. God has blessed us with friendly and good kittens.

  8. Hi Dione! I am hoping that the terrible fires that we are seeing on the news are not near you. I am praying like crazy for everyone – it looks like thousands will be impacted by these fires. Why oh why can’t it rain? And those extremely hot temperatures aren’t helping one bit. Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope the move goes well. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
